Product is what I know, do, and love...even long before I became a Product Professional.
From a young age I always questioned, Why? I have always stood up against the status quo, much preferring to identify what is right and makes sense, starting an Equal Rights Campaign Group (RAGE - for Racial And Gay Equality) at my 99% white High School. I have always been able to articulate my vision and win others over (I studied Law at University). So Product was in my blood, long before I even knew what that meant, but my break into the profession came purely by chance at what was then a UK-based Data Company. It was when I walked into my first Planning session as a Product Manager at that company and realised I was 1 of only 4 women in a room of 50, that I understood, my role was going to be more important than I intentioned.
Fast-forward 5 years and I have experience in a range of different sectors, including Identitiy Intelligence, Automotive and Retail but that male/female ratio has barely improved. So, having always identified as Feminist, long before it became a buzzword, (I was awarded Feminist Freedom Fighter by my 6th form peers!) I know my voice is now more important than ever if we are to ever hope of introducing more Women, from all backgrounds, to break into the Tech space.
And so, The WiPT was born. This is a portfolio, not only of my work but also highlighting the work of STEM and WomenInTech everywhere. You will find my professional blog, along with links to various resources showcasing individuals and promoting Women in this space and I am committed to recognising Women in what has long been a male-dominated environment.
Ultimately, this is a space to share; there is always something new to be discovered by collaborating and sharing our stories.
